RNIB: Welfare Rights and Sight Loss Advice Service Team Leader
Hours: 36 per week
Salary: £29,820 per annum
Contract type: Fixed Term contract until August 2019
This is a fantastic opportunity for a friendly professional to join an exciting project funded by the Big Lottery, alongside RNIB’s newly established UK Wide Sight Loss Advice Service. We are now recruiting a Team Leader to be based at one of our offices in Edinburgh.
The Big Lottery Funded See Me Right project, delivered by RNIB, provides much needed advice and support to residents of Scotland who are living with sight loss, regarding their welfare benefit entitlement. Our Welfare Rights Officers provide expert advice, and support customers with the benefit process from initial identification and application to Mandatory Reconsideration and tribunal in the event of an unsuccessful application.
Open 8am – 8pm weekdays and Saturday 9am – 1pm, RNIB’s Advice Service is a crucial component of our telephone and online-based National Advice and Specialist Services. Providing immediate and effective support, we offer invaluable first-time and in-depth advice to people with sight loss, their family, friends and carers.
As a Team Leader for the See Me Right project and a number of Sight Loss Advisers you’ll provide day to day support to your direct line reports and the wider team. You will provide supervision, mentoring and coaching to ensure they feel fulfilled within their roles and are able to deliver the service effectively.
In this role, you will manage casework allocations, provide support regarding complex casework and complete regular monitoring of both casework and performance. You will also operate a rota system with your Team Leader colleagues to manage delivery of the service during our operational hours.
We are seeking individuals with a proven background in managing a team of Welfare Rights advisers or generalist advice services providing welfare benefits advice with experience in the following areas:
- Welfare benefit identification (including the use of online tools) and application
- Challenging decision making from Mandatory Reconsideration to tribunal
- An understanding of the welfare benefit system in Scotland and across the UK
- Experience of managing advice services delivered over the phone and online
Highly organised and calm under pressure with the flexibility to work evenings and occasional Saturdays, you will competently cope with managing a busy project and telephone advice service, whilst actively supporting your line reports to achieve positive results for our customers. Positive, empathetic and motivated, you’ll work on your initiative and as part of a supportive team.
In exchange we offer a competitive salary, a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:
- 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays), which increase with service;
- Excellent pension schemes.
