Uppingham School: Grounds Person – Assistant Manager
Uppingham School is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Grounds Person to develop their career further in grounds keeping and to build on their existing leadership skills.
As the Assistant Grounds Manager, you will be joining a busy, close-knit Grounds Team where you will play a key role in managing the 120-acre estate, close to the rolling fields of Rutland. Specifically, your remit will include:
- Maintaining and improving the School grounds, associated sports facilities, and pitches, including multiple natural and artificial playing surfaces;
- Supporting the Grounds Manager to lead, develop and mentor a team of grounds employees and to deliver high standards of performance, excellent customer service, and a proactive approach to all elements of work;
- Being a highly-skilled and knowledgeable senior team member, helping to manage and allocate all associated departmental tasks and ensuring that they are actioned correctly and to high standards at all times.
The built estate has 80 buildings, including teaching blocks, assembly buildings, boarding houses, staff housing, administrative and technical accommodation, and sports facilities. The School covers approximately 120 non-contiguous acres, almost one mile apart at its extremities and interspersed by town housing and retail properties.
The successful candidate will be NVQ Level 3 Sports Turf Maintenance qualified or equivalent and will offer significant grounds maintenance experience. The ability to remain calm in a busy and demanding environment, excellent communication skills, strong leadership skills and a flexible attitude to working hours are all essential. A driving licence for towing trailers will be advantageous.
