Advertisement - Download PDF of advertisment The JobAs a Senior Policy Manager, your role is likely to involve giving authoritative advice to Ministers and other decision makers on politically sensitive issues. You may act as deputy to a Director. You may also have significant budgetary and staff management responsibilities. Leading on high profile issues with senior people from government and business on a daily basis, you will design and implement the strategy for specific areas of policy across the UK energy / climate change arena.

Likely to be leading a team, you will encourage innovation, whilst ensuring that results are delivered and communicated on time and to budget. You will nurture collaborative working relationships across country boundaries and between teams.

You will have proven experience in practical policy analysis, with expertise within a relevant area of policy being advantageous. You must be able to offer fresh thinking and innovative approaches to policy issues and be able to stand up to vested interests.
 Qualifications, Skills and Attributes required
Essential skills and attributes which applicants need to demonstrate • Knowledge and ability to manage an area with significant budgets (e.g. £2m and above);• Using a strong management approach, creativity and a thorough understanding of issues and processes to persuade other key stakeholders (ie other Government Departments) to play their part in meeting organisation objectives; 
• The ability to create strategy using evidence based best practice;
• Ensure your team knows how to engage effectively with partners/stakeholders, understands their needs and aspirations and develops appropriate solutions/improvements;
• Ability to solve novel and ill-defined problems that call for significant levels of judgement;
• Ability to apply creative and original thought to problems that may result in policy changes; 
• Excellent communication influencing and negotiation skills: most contacts will be at a senior level in the public and private sectors;
• Excellent interpersonal and staff management skills, and the ability to work corporately as part of a team; and
• Successful track record in policy and/or delivery.
 Desirable
• Expertise within an area of policy with the energy sector or climate change agenda.

The salary scale for Grade 6 (Range11) starts at a minimum of £52,778 to a target rate of £64,253.
