Benefits

Salary
Starting salaries for successful candidates who are new to the civil service will normally be at the minimum of the pay scale, although a higher starting salary may be negotiated for candidates with exceptional skills, knowledge or experience. .

Pension Scheme
The civil service offers excellent pension arrangements. This is an important part of the reward package. On average the pension provision is worth more than 18% of pay. Employee contributions are currently only 3.5% of pay.

Holiday
On appointment you will be entitled to 30 days paid annual leave. In addition, there are 10.5 days public and privilege holidays per year.

Season ticket loan
On joining the Department, you may apply for an interest-free loan for a quarterly travel season ticket and, thereafter, for the purchase of an annual ticket or for the purchase of a bicycle.

Terms and conditions

Probation
Your appointment will be subject to satisfactorily completing a 12 month period of probation.

Hours
You are expected to work a 5 day, 36 hour working week exclusive of lunch breaks. Flexible working hours can be worked and part-time work is also available, usually in the form of working a reduced number of hours/days per week or job sharing. The Department encourages staff to have a sensible work/life balance, of mutual benefit to the individual and the Department.

Mobility
These roles will be based in central London. Exceptionally, you may be required to work elsewhere but, so far as possible, the Department will take account of your wishes.

Smoking
DECC has a no smoking policy at the workplace.

• For anonymised diversity monitoring and making decisions about eligibility, verification and pre-employment vetting of candidates;
• By DECC staff with specific responsibilities for establishing eligibility, verification and pre-employment vetting of candidates;
• By DECC's designate recruiter for initial processing of application forms and DECC's Medical Adviser should your health declaration form necessitate referral for medical counsel.

If you give any information which you know is false, or if you withhold relevant information, this may lead to your application being rejected or, if you have been already appointed, to your dismissal.
